Many adults spend years being told they are disorganised, anxious, or simply not trying hard enough. An assessment with Dr Gavin Lobo gives you a clear clinical answer, and because it happens at your own practice rather than a one-off telehealth appointment, the doctor who assesses you is the doctor who looks after you afterwards.

What the assessment covers
$500 covers the assessment itself. With the 4-week medication review at $100 that's $600 in total if you're enrolled here, or $750 if you're staying with your own GP and need the final review and handover at $150. An ECG is an extra $55 if you're 45 or over or have a relevant cardiac history.

- Return your consent formMandi, our Registered Nurse, reviews your form before anything else is sent, to make sure an ADHD assessment is the right next step for you.
- Complete your questionnairesFour sets, sent once your form is approved: our Adult ADHD Pre-Assessment and Life History Questionnaire, ASRS, WURS-25, and a short screening set covering mood, anxiety and alcohol use. Allow about 90 minutes, over several sittings if that suits.
- Pre-assessment review and blood testsMandi reviews your questionnaires and sends your blood test request electronically to Awanui Labs, so there's no paper form and any collection centre works. Please go at least one working day before your appointment. An ECG is also required if you're 45 or over, or have a relevant cardiac history.
- Your assessmentTwo parts on the day: 45 minutes with Mandi, then 30 minutes with Dr Lobo for your diagnostic assessment, the outcome and, if ADHD is diagnosed, your treatment options. If medication is started you'll be given a titration plan.
- Titration, stabilisation and handoverMandi checks in about 2 weeks after you start medication. At 4 weeks Dr Lobo reviews how you're responding, how long it lasts, any side effects and your symptom control, and adjusts the dose or medication as needed. A final review with Dr Lobo 4 weeks later confirms your ongoing plan. If you're enrolled here your care continues with us, with your next routine review in 3 months. If you're staying with your own GP we send them your report and clinical handover, including your diagnosis, stabilised dose and Special Authority details.

I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult in 2025, and receiving that diagnosis gave me a much better understanding of myself, and with the right treatment, made a significant difference to both my personal and professional life.
If you're considering an ADHD assessment, I know it can feel overwhelming. When you begin an assessment with us, I'm the first person you'll meet, and I work closely with Dr Lobo throughout. My goal is a welcoming, non-judgemental environment where you feel heard, supported, and confident that you're in experienced hands.

(09) 631 5305Could I have ADHD as an adult?
Yes. Plenty of adults are diagnosed later in life, having spent years building coping strategies that mask it. In adults it tends to look like difficulty holding focus at work, poor time management, forgetfulness, emotional sensitivity, and starting things without finishing them.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly with the practice. Call reception or book through the online portal.
How much does it cost?
$600 in total if you're enrolled with Gavin Lobo Health, being $500 for the assessment and $100 for the 4-week medication review. $750 if you're staying with your own GP, which adds a final medication review and GP handover at $150. An ECG is an extra $55 if you're 45 or over or have a relevant cardiac history, and questionnaire assistance with Mandi is $100. Pricing is confirmed when you book.
Why see a GP rather than a telehealth service?
Being seen in person allows for a fuller clinical picture, including the physical checks that a video call cannot cover. It also means the doctor who assesses you can prescribe, review and manage your care afterwards, rather than handing you back to someone else.
Will I be judged?
No. A lot of patients arrive having felt dismissed or unheard for years. Every concern is taken seriously, and nothing about the appointment is rushed.
Does ADHD look different in adults?
Considerably. The hyperactive child stereotype is a poor guide to how it presents in adults, and in women it is often mistaken for anxiety or perfectionism, which is one of the reasons so many were missed as children.
What happens after the assessment?
Dr Lobo goes through the results with you and puts together a plan. That may include medication, practical strategies, or a referral on. You will not leave without a clear next step.
Is ADHD treatable?
Yes. With the right support most adults see real improvement in focus, work and relationships. Options include medication, therapy, coaching and practical strategies, chosen to suit you.
